Three cups of tea is the remarkable true story of Greg Mortenson. It is a story that inspires us to learn that although borders try to divide us, it is the human spirit that can always find a way to keep us united. Greg set out to climb K2, the second highest mountain on earth. Instead, he came across a remote community in Northeastern Pakistan in need of a school. This friendly and joyful community was juxtaposed against the harsh climate and impoverished reality. The story speaks to Greg’s obstacles, triumphs and the revelations that he makes along his journey. Three Cups of Tea highlights the importance but also the conflicting resistance of girls becoming educated.
This story made me think about just how lucky I am to be an educated woman and how different my life would be if I had been born in a different place or born at a different time. There is nothing that I have done in my life that makes me more deserving of an education than any other woman on this planet. In my lifetime, my goal is to be able to live in a world where every young person, regardless of their sex, has been given the right to an education. I have promised to dedicate my life to ensuring that happens.
I encourage all of the readers of this blog to become readers of Three Cups of Tea!
