donorworx Alumni Spotlight: Tamara Fosty

The donorworx community of World Changers is proud of our many successful alumni. In a series of posts we will introduce you to a sampling of the talented World Changers donorworx has had the pleasure of fundraising alongside. We are delighted to share their achievements in their new adventures and inspiring careers !

1What was your work history with donorworx?

I worked with donorworx for 2 years. I started as a Fundraiser in West Edmonton mall and shortly after I moved into a Team Leader role followed by a Campaign Field Manager role. This role gave me the opportunity to run campaigns out in Vancouver and to move into the Regional Manager for BC and Saskatchewan.

2What inspired you to get involved to work at donorworx in the first place?

I have a big heart and so does donorworx and all of their staff. I wanted to work for a company that helped to make positive changes in the lives of those who struggle to have their basic needs meet in developing countries around the world.

3. What was the best part about being a World Changer?

Besides changing lives everyday? I loved the people I worked with and I loved that at the end of the day we were all working towards the same goal.

4. What impact did being a fundraiser have on you personally?

Fundraising was tough. You are met with rejection everyday. I had to move beyond these limitations which meant ALWAYS being positive! This had a huge impact on my life at work and outside of work. I now believe that I can do ANYTHING.

5. What are you up to now? How did being a World Changer influence your future life goals?

Being a World Changer solidified my desire to help others. I have recently started my own business as a Reiki Practitioner for people and pets.

6. How did being a fundraiser prepare you and give you the skills needed for your current job?

I have always been motivated to succeed but being a fundraiser fueled the fire!! Failure is not an option and I learnt this during my time I spent with donorworx.

7. Any advice for aspiring World Changers?

You can DO IT!!!! BELIEVE! BELIEVE! BELIEVE! Never take the smile off your face and project only positive energy! Wipe away all the doubts and fears and replace them with positive affirmations. Our choice of thoughts and the words we speak, directly influences how your day/shift will unfold and the number of children you will find sponsors for.

8. Favourite quote:

“Here’s to the crazy ones, The misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” Steve Jobs
