The donorworx community of World Changers is proud of our many successful alumni. In a series of posts we will introduce you to a sampling of the talented World Changers donorworx has had the pleasure of fundraising alongside. We are delighted to share their achievements in their new adventures and inspiring careers !
1.What was your work history with donorworx?
I started working with Donorworx as a Fundraiser, later a Team Leader and a Campaign Field Manager. I received the opportunity to work in several different states alongside many amazing and talented people.
2. What inspired you to get involved to work at donorworx in the first place?
The vision of Donorworx is “to create a world free of suffering through the power of giving.” My passion in life simply comes down to helping others by being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Finding an organization as committed as Donorworx to fighting worldwide poverty made me jump at the opportunity to join this team.
3. What was the best part about being a World Changer?
The best part about being a World Changer came down to two different things for me. The first part was being able to meet so many amazing people with incredible stories. On a day-to-day basis you never knew who you were going to meet and what impact it was going to have in your life. The second part came down to realizing that know matter what happened you were truly making a difference in the lives of others by being a voice for the many children we represented at the booth. It did not matter whether I was having a good day or a great day; the feeling of getting a child sponsored is one that cannot be described. You truly feel like you are making a difference in this world and it makes you want to wake up the next day and fight just as hard if not harder. Every day brings a new adventure filled with endless stories and possibilities!
4. What impact did being a fundraiser have on you personally?
Being a fundraiser for Donorworx opened my eyes to how big of an impact a small team of fundraisers can have in this world. Not only do you work with others who share similar passions as you do, but it is a self-fulfilling role that you do not always find in other careers. I can honestly say that being a fundraiser and fighting for children all over the world has been one of the most gratifying experiences in my life.
5. What are you up to now? How did being a World Changer influence your future life goals?
Before I started working with Donorowrx, one of my major life passions was and still is combating human trafficking. Being a World Changer has been one aspect of my life that has encouraged me to do more and to realize that in order to really make a difference I need to fight for what I believe in. I currently am working on starting a non-profit that focuses on spreading educational awareness to others on the topic of modern day slavery. One of my goals is for states and countries to create/enforce laws that protect victims of human trafficking. By teaching people what human trafficking looks like through education, rehabilitation, prevention and advocacy I truly feel we will be able to someday put an end to modern day slavery.
6. How did being a fundraiser prepare you and give you the skills needed for your current job?
Being a fundraiser has given me many skills needed in regards to developing my own non-profit. One thing that it really taught me was to make sure to talk to everyone you meet and to not pre-judge people. Everyone has a life story, take the time to listen; you never know what impact you will have on eachothers lives.
7. Any advice for aspiring World Changers?
Never give up hope, have faith and believe in yourself! It is easy to walk away from things when it feels like it has become to challenging but that is exactly the reason to stay. My philosophy has always been; “Maybe I cannot change the world but if I make an impact in at least one persons life I have done my job right.”
8. Favourite quote?
I am quote fanatic so it is hard to choose just one. However, I am a huge believer in having faith and one quote that has had an impact in my life over the past years is:
Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.
