The donorworx community of World Changers is proud of our many successful alumni. In a series of posts we will introduce you to a sampling of the talented World Changers donorworx has had the pleasure of fundraising alongside. We are delighted to share their achievements in their new adventures and inspiring careers !
1.What was your work history with donorworx?
I worked with donorworx a few years ago for the World Vision campaign in Kitchener’s Fairview Park Mall.
2. What inspired you to get involved to work at donorworx in the first place?
My family and I always had a sponsor child when I was growing up, and I knew that donorworx had a great history with them. I figured that this was a great way for me to get involved.
3. What was the best part about being a World Changer?
The best part of the job was seeing the look on the person’s face that had just sponsored a child. Those moments still stick with me. Seeing someone cry because they helped to save a life. It is an amazing feeling to know that you helped that person find the child that they will sponsor.
4. What impact did being a fundraiser have on you personally?
Being a fundraiser really put things into perspective for me. I had never worked for an organization like donorworx before, where they truly cared about these children and the lives that they were potentially saving. It was never about “a job” or “working” to everyone involved with donorworx. It was a chance for them to show others the difference that they could make. It made me happy that I could be a part of it, and grateful for all that I have in my own life.
5. What are you up to now? How did being a World Changer influence your future life goals?
I host the morning show on Z103.5 Toronto, a goal that I have been working towards for a long time. I took a lot with me on a personal level after working with donorworx. Knowing how an organization like World Vision works has been very helpful for me, and I am lucky that I have a voice in the community, which gives me the opportunity to speak to others about great causes, such as this one.
6. How did being a fundraiser prepare you and give you the skills needed for your current job?
Being a fundraiser was great, because I was able to converse with people on a daily basis. I heard some very interesting and touching stories. It opened my eyes to a lot of issues I did not know were out there. I have always had a bit of a phobia when it came to public speaking, or approaching others at work. This helped.
7. Any advice for aspiring World Changers?
The knowledge that one person can truly make a difference If you believe that, you CAN change the world.
